Description
‘Shanakht Kay Qaidi’ (Stranded in Identity) is an a book written by Syed Atiq ul Hassan who is an international journalist and a political analyst based in Sydney, Australia. Shanakht Kay Qaidi reveals stunning stories of discrimination and racism against the new migrants that came from India to Pakistan in 1947. Pakistan was created to provide equal rights on merit and equal opportunities to every citizen of the country indiscriminately. However, this was not achieved and as a result the citizens of former East Pakistan and now Bangladesh stood up for their equal rights and eventually separated from Pakistan in 1971. Since split of the country a nexus of landlords, tribal leaders, business tycoons, crooked politicians and the army are running in Pakistan for their own vested interest.
The government has administratively and constitutionally have divided the province of Sindh. It is split by rural and urban areas, but the fact of the mater is the division is actually between the Muhajirs (the people who migrated from India in 1947 to Pakistan) and the people who were already there (Sindhi speaking). The 10 chapters of the ‘Shanakht Kay Qaidi reveals the horrors against the Muhajirs (Urdu-speaking) whose grandparents and parents migrated to newly created Pakistan from India, in 1947. They came with the understanding they will have social freedom and equal rights with the other ethnic communities. Yet, after 70 years to the creation of Pakistan equal rights to all the citizens has not been delivered. The author has documented his own experiences, observations about the discrimination he experienced when he was student and in profession in Pakistan. Eventually he left Pakistan in 1989 and started his new life in Australia.
